The Awards and Recognition Committee solicits nominations and makes recommendations to the SCACE Board for the annual presentation of the following awards:

The New Professional Award, The Unsung Hero Service Award, and The Honorary Lifetime Member Award.

New Professional Award: Given in recognition of a professional who during their first years as a member made significant contribution to the organization.

Eligibility: Nominees must have given a significant contribution of service to SCACE within their first years of being a member; served on a SCACE committee and be recommended by a SCACE member.

Unsung Hero Service Award: Given in recognition of a SCACE member that has served in a variety of leadership roles and has gone over and beyond the call of duty for SCACE while making a valuable contribution to the organization.

Eligibility: Nominees must have been a member of the organization for 5 years or more; served on several committees; served in various leadership roles and be recommended by a SCACE member.

Honorary Lifetime Member Award: Given in recognition of a professional who during their tenure with SCACE has exemplified the values and legacy of SCACE.

Eligibility: Nominee must have been a member of SCACE for 10 years or more; given outstanding service to the organization; served in numerous leadership roles and made a valuable contribution to the profession; recommended by a SCACE member along with a letter of support from a SCACE Board Member if the person that is nominating is not a board member.

Goals & Objectives

  1. To recognize and reward members of SCACE who have shown exemplary service and dedication to SCACE.
  2. Solicit nominations for awards at the annual conference, at the drive-ins, in the newsletter and by e-mail in order to generate sufficient numbers for review and selection.

Timeline

  1. Nomination forms should be passed out at the Winter Drive In.
  2. The first call for award nominations should occur during the fall semester via email and will be advertised in the Winter Newsletter.
  3. A reminder message should be sent in December via email.
  4. A "final reminder notice" is sent in the Spring Newsletter and/or via email.
  5. The deadline for nominations should be March 15th .
  6. The deadline for awards selection should be April 15th in order to gather bios on award recipients for program and to order plaque.
  7. As soon as the winners are selected by the Awards Committee the recipients are immediately contacted by the Awards Committee Chair. At this time, it is communicated to the recipient when the Awards Ceremony will take place. As a courtesy, the nominator will be contacted to let him/her know that their nominee will be receiving an award.

Requirements

  1. Must be an active member of SCACE in good standing.
  2. Must meet the requirements specified within the Award description in which an individual is being nominated.
  3. To remain eligible to receive the award the individual must be in the position they were in at the time of the nomination or in another position that serves the mission of SCACE.

Recommendations

  1. Coordinate with the Board and/or appropriate committee to present the SCACE Awards at the Awards Ceremony.
  2. The Awards and Recognition Committee Chair will work with the President to set the agenda and presenters for the Awards Ceremony. In addition, the Awards Chair gives the bios and picture for the Award winners to the Conference Program Brochure Chair so that they will be published in the conference brochure.
  3. An awards brochure/program will be published for the ceremony and the previous award winner's names will be listed.
  4. Incorporate the Scholarship Recipients into the Awards Program.
  5. The Past President serves as the Chair of the Awards Committee. He/she chooses the Award Committee Members with the approval of the Board Members.
  6. If a member of the Awards Committee nominates a SCACE member for an award they will remove themselves from voting for the particular award in which their nominee is nominated.
  7. A budget for the awards is figured into the conference budget to cover expenses. The awards should not exceed $500.
