One of the many benefits of being a member
of SCACE is the opportunity to attend two drive-in workshops a year.
We offer a Fall Drive-in (generally in August or September) and a Winter
Drive-In (generally in January or February). Each workshop features
a specific college or organization. In this way, both employers and
educational professionals can exchange ideas and information, enriching
the information that is ultimately passed on to college students/job
candidates.

Winter 2008

Blue Cross/Blue Shield of South
Carolina
The 2008 Winter Drive In was held on January 22nd
at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. The meeting featured
a presentation from Lonnie Emard about the challenges of recruiting
IT professionals and ways that BCBSSC has worked to overcome those
challenges. A tour of the Data Center was provided for members
to see how insurance and health data are stored and the security
measures surrounding that data. Thanks so much to Kristine
Hooker and the staff at BCBSSC’s IT recruiting office for
making this event a huge success!

Fall 2005
We had a wonderful 2005
Fall Drive In hosted by BlackBaud in Charleston, SC on August
21, 2005. BlackBaud was a gracious host. SCACE members toured
its facility and were treated to lunch afterwards. Participants
at this function met and heard from BlackBaud’s President, Robert
(Bob) Sywolski and VP of Human Resources, John Mistretta. A big
thank you goes to Deb Herman and Anna Burkhardt for their hard
work planning this event.

Winter 2005

Nestle USA is one of
the largest employers in the state, employing over 1500 employees
and producing over 1 million items each day! Come join us as we
learn more about this unique organization and tour its South Carolina
facility.
January
20, 2005
9:30am
to 1:00pm
Gaffney , SC
As in the
past, the annual Spring Drive-in workshop was a great success.
This year the South Carolina Association of Colleges & Employers
visited the Prepared Foods Division of Nestle USA, where we were
given a unique opportunity to learn more about one of the largest
employers in the state. The Gaffney, SC facility produces the
prepackaged foods, such as Stouffers and Lean Cuisine brands,
that we all know and love from our favorite grocers.
Having enjoyed
a continental breakfast provided by Nestle, SCACE members were
treated to an informative presentation given by Mr. Pat Emrich,
Factory Manager. Mr. Emrich offered a number of interesting facts
about Nestle that reflected its leadership
position in frozen meals production, its excellent record of profitable
growth, and its continued focus on being one of the strongest
consumer trusted brands in the nation. We learned also that Nestle's
prepared Foods Divisions is one of the largest food processing
factories in the United States, producing over 1 million items
each day and making Nestle a major economic player in South Carolina.
After the presentation, SCACE members were offered tours of the
facility, which is normally closed to the public. Here we got
to see the entire prepared food production process in action,
witnessing everything from stuffing bell peppers by hand to mass
producing meatballs. We even got a peek at the taste testing area,
where supervisors are specially trained to sample dinners that
are plucked randomly off the production line. Once our tours were
completed, we ate alongside Nestle employees in the factory's
cafeteria. All in all, it was an exciting Drive-in and an excellent
opportunity for SCACE members to gain first hand knowledge of
a world-renowned organization.
